We use Enterprise BPM 8 as the orchestration platform for hybrid workflows where AI agents and humans collaborate. The principle is simple: AI works autonomously as long as it's confident. The moment a defined threshold is breached — or a regulatory approval is needed — a human is brought in. Not with a bare task, but with full context: what did the AI check? Why is it escalating? What alternatives does it see? The result is a process that combines the speed of AI with the judgment of humans. And every decision — whether made by machine or human — is documented and traceable.
Architecture Principles
Confidence-Based Escalation
Each AI agent assesses its own confidence on a scale. If the value falls below the defined threshold, a Human Task is automatically created in Enterprise BPM.
Regulatory Checkpoints
Some decisions cannot be made by AI alone — regardless of confidence. These checkpoints are anchored in the BPMN model.
Context-Rich Handover
When a human is brought in, they receive full context via Enterprise BPM Tasklist: input data, AI processing steps, result, and confidence score.
Complete Audit Trail
Every decision — whether by AI or human — is logged with timestamp, context, and reasoning. For internal review, external audits, and regulatory requirements.
